Drug furures: A public health perspective.

Dr. Jane Mounteney is currently working as Head of the Public Health Unit at the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction and has been at the Centre for the last 12 years. She has been working in drug research, policy and practice since 1994, both at a national and European level. In her current position at the EMCDDA she has an overall responsibility for the areas of drug epidemiology, drug policy and interventions.

For many years she was lead writer on the European Drug Report and has authored numerous scientific publications. She has also an interest in the development of methodologies for earlier warning and identification of new drug trends and has been responsible for establishing a number of European and city level methodologies and projects in this field. In the past, Jane has worked as a Director at the UK-based Institute for the Study of Drug Dependence, and as a consultant at the Bergen Clinics Foundation in Norway. In Bergen she established the Fore Var system in 2002 and was responsible for its development until she left in 2010. Jane has two masters degrees (in management & social work) and a public health PhD, focusing on methods for earlier warning of new drug trends.
